Grow, engage and retain your employees through development

Gallup recently published an article entitled: Enable professional development to drive engagement.

It found what we all know but possibly don’t sufficiently create people strategies to support that ‘Without the opportunity to grow and develop, employees feel disengaged and disconnected. When they see no path forward in their career, their enthusiasm wanes, and so does their performance.’

The report observed that development isn’t just about promotions, it’s about learning, personal growth and empowerment. It said that ‘Organisations that strategically invest in development see 11% higher profitability and are twice as likely to retain top talent.'

How do you view learning and development?  As a cost or an investment?

Under the heading ‘How leaders should respond’ the report stressed that ‘development is all about employees making meaningful progress in their current role. When employees feel they are growing, they’re more engaged, productive and loyal.’

In the current environment to of increased retailer costs, continuing upward price pressure in key categories and increased competition, account management teams will face a lot of pressure as they endeavour to drive growth and meet challenging customer requests. If account teams are aware of Competition law and GSCOP regulation they will be equipped with both a sword and shield to be utilised in customer conversations.

Organisations miss the mark when they fail to integrate engagement and development into one cohesive strategy.
